"Gideon will not be counted with the victims of October 7, but he has been on our couch for a year broken." This is what Hagit Chen, the daughter of Gideon Raviv, who passed away this week at the age of 80, said. Raviv is the grandfather of IDF First Sergeant Itai Chen from Netanya, who fell in battle in the October 7 massacre and whose body was kidnapped to the Gaza Strip.

In March of this year, the chief military rabbi determined the death of Chen, 19 years old, after examining the findings and based on reliable information that reached the IDF. The family of the armored soldier decided that only after his body was returned would a funeral and shiva be held. Parents Hagit and Robi are working to return their son's body as part of the struggle which includes the return of the 101 abductees who have been held captive by Hamas for 385 days.

"Last Yom Kippur, father fell and suddenly collapsed," said Hagit. "He shouldn't have died now. This whole year has been accelerating bad processes in the body. He lay helpless and screamed, 'Where are you with me?' To the person my doctor asked if I was his guardian."

Grandpa Gideon was especially close to me. He lived in the same building as the Chen family, and the two had a special bond. "Father was a fighter pilot," says Hagit. "He fought in Israel's wars, in the Yom Kippur War I was three years old and his plane was hit. He jumped out of the plane to avoid being captured and then the plane exploded. All my life he told me that it was a miracle I grew up with my father."

Hagit further said: "I was born at the base of Ramat David, after that my father retired from the army and became a pilot in El Al, and now he was an 80-year-old pensioner. My father, a hero of Israel, would not have died if it weren't for what happened to me. Circles of harm on October 7 It's not limited to the nuclear family, my father was also a victim of October 7."

The grandfather will no longer get to visit the grave of his beloved grandson. "Iti is the only abductee from Netanya, and the rally on Saturday night in the city of Yamim would have held my father," Hagit noted. "He would come every Shabbat with his sign that says 'My grandson is not abandoned with me in Gaza.' A week. That was his war on me."
